When 1 conversation makes you desperately want to work for someone

Last week I had a conversation with a leader who had me going like, “um, hi yes can I please work for you?”.

And it wasn’t just because of the work, it was the values that he expressed as a leader.

Many of you know that throughout this whole entrepreneurship adventure I’ve had several different part-time jobs. They have ranged from selling handcrafted marshmallows at the Farmer’s Market to working on boats. Plus, let’s not forget about all the yoga I teach!

Due to the work I do here at Viable Wellbeing and my professional expertise, it’s important to me to work for a boss who demonstrates a leadership strategy that honors wellbeing.

While some people might say I’m picky, I say that life is too short to work for someone who might stress me out, make me feel stupid, or communicate in a way that erodes my sense of self.

I’ve been fortunate to work for a lot of incredible bosses and learn from some amazing entrepreneurs who have supported me and my business.

So when I started to explore the idea of working for this individual and instantly he wanted to learn about Viable Wellbeing while expressing his own leadership values, I was like .

He simply got it. He knew that leadership is a critical skill that is LEARNED and always something to improve upon. He even understood the idea that any insecurities or internal blocks you might have come out in toxic leadership traits. He shared his approach to leadership while telling me more about how they conduct business and their expectations.

I was like, yes when can I start?

If people quit bosses (and not always jobs) it can then be said that people will show up for a boss who makes their employees feel supported, listened to, inspired, and appreciated. People will work hard for a boss who values their employees wellbeing while demonstrating that they are putting their all into the job.

It’s not always about the job. It’s about how they feel.

This is possible for you. If you commit to the work (both internally and creating real external results) you will have new candidates begging to work for you and current employees in it for the long haul.
